Ran dry: what happened
The unincorporated Beulah valley is served by two small districts that draw directly from creeks, Middle Creek and the St. Charles River. In the 2002 drought the creeks ran dry in July and, in the words of the state Division Engineer's annual report, Beulah lost almost all ability to divert its normal supply and resorted to hauling much of its emergency water from Pueblo. Local accounts say both districts hauled water for 66 days, with the county and dairy milk trucks keeping the community supplied; the districts later built an interconnecting pipeline.
