Restricted: what happened
Monument Creek, Palmer Lake's surface source, has been completely dry since June 19, 2026, leaving the town's surface-water plant offline and the town wholly dependent on wells whose yields are falling with the aquifer. On August 13, 2026 the Board of Trustees declared a Stage 1 water emergency with mandatory restrictions: outdoor watering only on Wednesday evenings from buckets or cans of five gallons or less, with sprinklers and automatic irrigation prohibited, fines of up to $2,650 and possible shutoff for repeat violations. The water supervisor expects the emergency to last into 2027.
