    Ran dry: what happened

Tooleville's two community wells, run by a 77-connection mutual water association, lost production as groundwater fell; residents reported little or no water on July 15, 2022 and the town went onto hauled water, about 27,000 gallons a day trucked into tanks installed by Self-Help Enterprises, and by late August the second well had failed too. It was the third loss in a year: on July 21, 2021 the Alfred Street well stopped producing and the state issued a boil-water notice for the outage, and on June 6 to 8, 2022 most of the town lost water until the pump was lowered. The state ordered consolidation with Exeter in August 2021; the emergency intertie was still being built in 2025.
